Naming Your Baby – One of Most Important Decisions in Your Life

One of the most exciting aspects of becoming a parent is deciding on what name to give to your new baby and it can also be one of the most difficult things to do as well. After all, your baby will have to live with this name for the rest of his or her life. It does not have to be stressful or overly difficult to choose a perfect name for the newest member of your family. Today, more and more new parents are choosing baby names that are rather unique instead of selecting names that tend to be more traditional. Of course, if you wish to follow tradition, then by all means do so. The key is to listen to your heart and choose a name that has meaning and one that you think fits the child.

When choosing a name for a newborn baby boy, you should think of any male names that are important to you. Maybe you have a favorite uncle or another male family member that you would like to name your boy after. Perhaps there is simply a name you have heard that you love, or maybe there is a character in one of your favorite books that you would like to name your son after. If you are still finding yourself stumped you can find lists of baby boy names online and in baby name books that will give you a good starting point.

The above also holds true when naming a baby girl. Consider naming her after your favorite female family member or giving her a name you have heard and like very much. A few of the most popular baby girl names the past couple of years have been Emma, Sophia and Madison. You can look through baby name books to see what the trends have been in recent years or you could name your girl after a famous current-day politician or pop idol.

Unisex baby names are also a growing trend and names like Cameron and Tracey are well suited to both sexes.  Names such as Jamie, Hayden, Piper, Nicky and Blair are very popular choices these days-a unisex name can really set your child apart from the crowd.

Naming your baby requires that you and your spouse sit down and talk candidly about what names the both of you like. Remember that although a name may sound cute for a baby, maybe it would not be quite as appropriate for an adult. Also consider the nicknames that are associated with certain names as well as the spelling that you plan to use.

Naming your baby should be fun and exciting. It is best to start discussing name choices far before your baby is born. Write down your top choices and update your list as the birth date approaches. Giving yourselves plenty of time will all but guarantee that you both will be pleased with the name you chose and that your child will grow to love his or her name as well.

Baby Parenting – Guide Your Baby Everyday

Be a Good Teacher for Your Baby

Babies learn by exploring the things around them. Show your baby how to look at, listen to, touch or smell something new or different. Hold your baby so she (or he) can see things. Help her hold objects like her socks or a rattle. As she grows, give her safe objects to feel, shake or put into her mouth.

·       Be your baby’s teacher. She (or he) will see how you react to things. When you get excited about a toy or object, she’ll get excited too. As she grows, show her how things work—for example, how doors open and close. Talk about what you are doing. For example, “I am putting the food in the pot to cook it.”

·      When a baby is learning something new, it helps her to try it again and again. With your help and support this can be fun, and your baby will like trying new things.

·    Protect your baby from harsh disapproval, teasing or punishment. A baby doesn’t understand right from wrong. She doesn’t know what things are dangerous for her to do. Watch her to keep her safe. Remove her from situations where she can be hurt or injured.

·      Talk and sing to your baby. Even before she is able to speak, this helps her develop language skills. Babies learn best when you talk to them.

·      Read to your baby from the earliest months of her life and continue this habit as she grows.

Babies Have People Skills, Too

From the start, your baby is interested in your face. She notices your expressions and tone of voice. She reacts to your emotions. For example, when you say something in a soft and loving way, she will relax and feel more secure.

Scientists have learned that babies show emotions as early as when they are one month old. Something else scientists have learned is that feeling good helps babies learn better.

Why? Happy babies are more alert, attentive and responsive. Babies remember things better when they are happy and at ease. The way you hold and talk to your baby can help her feel happy.

Babies who are alert and feeling good are more likely to look at things, explore and play. They will pay attention more. For example, they will try to make new things happen with toys or make sounds with people. This helps them learn and remember new things.

Brief periods of distress or difficulty will occur. These will not harm a child. Short periods of negative emotions can be helpful for your baby. You should do something quickly to help her feel better. From this she will learn you care about what she tries to tell you. Long periods of negative emotion, like crying, can do harm.

In the first month, the negative emotion that occurs is distress or a response to pain. Later, she will show sadness and anger. Next comes fear. All people have these emotions to protect themselves. Help your baby be at ease with having emotions. Respond to her emotions in a warm and loving way.

You can tell what your baby is feeling by changes in her facial expression. You can also see what she is feeling by her posture, movements and the sounds she makes.

Learning to Communicate

It will be months before your baby says her first word. But babies start learning about language much earlier.

Even in the first few weeks after birth, your baby is learning about language. Very young babies can tell the difference between speech and other sounds. They can tell the difference between the voices of men and the voices of women. They even know the voices of their own mothers. A baby can tell the voice of her mother from the voices of other women. Researchers think babies are able to do this because of the way specific parts of their brains work.

Babies can also communicate long before they speak. They use movements and sounds to let you know what they want or don’t want. Some people refer to these as a baby’s “signals”.

Right now, your baby can tell you if she needs something by fussing or crying. She can also let you know when she likes something or someone by looking intently. Babies learn best how to tell parents what they like or don’t like when they begin to see that parents respond to them in positive ways.

Even before she can speak, you need to talk to your baby. Even though there are differences among individuals, babies whose parents talk to them talk sooner. They also have larger vocabularies. Talking to babies gives them language skills that will help them learn more easily when they get to school. Hearing words on the radio or TV is not very helpful to babies learning language. Your baby benefits from having you up close smiling, talking and singing.

Babies Cry for Lots of Reasons

Crying is the way newborns communicate. Your new baby cries to let you know she needs or wants something.

The first thing to try when she cries is to feed her. By noticing when she wants to be fed and when she doesn’t, you will learn which cries mean that she is hungry, uncomfortable or wants attention. Sometimes she will want to be held. Sometimes she wants a dry diaper. Sometimes she is tired or bored.

As you and your baby get to know each other, you will sometimes be able to tell the difference between each kind of crying. You can then try to give her what she needs.

Taking care of your baby when she cries will not spoil her. It will help your baby feel loved and secure.

Smile, touch and talk to your baby as often as possible. Do this when you feed her, change her diaper or give her a bath. Your baby will learn that she can rely on you to take care of her.

Ways to Soothe Your Baby

Sometimes babies cry even when they have been fed, have clean diapers and are healthy. If your baby is crying because she needs comfort, there are many things you can do. Every baby is different.

Here are things you can try to find out what calms your baby down.

- Rock your baby in your arms or while sitting in a rocking chair.

- Stroke your baby’s head very gently, or lightly pat her back or chest.

- Make soft noises to let your baby know you are there and you care.

- Talk to your baby.

- Softly sing to your baby or play soft music.

- Wrap her up in a baby blanket (but not too tightly).

If your baby keeps crying after you have tried everything, stay calm. Babies know when you are upset. No matter how stressed you are, never shake your baby. Shaking your baby can cause blindness, brain damage or even death.

If you need a break, call a relative, neighbour or friend to help. All babies cry. You will not be able to comfort your baby every time. That does not mean you are a bad parent. Do the best you can to soothe and comfort your baby.

Here’s a simple tip to help your baby cry less—carry her. Research shows that babies who are carried more often don’t cry as much as other babies.

Baby Care Tips

The mother of a baby is the most busy person on earth, when she is not very gathered about her daily routine vis-à-vis the baby.

Breast feeding

Everyday she has to bother about  the baby’s feeding, sleeping, clothing, changing and bathing.  It is the best to feed your own milk to the child. Please do not forget to give her the first milk of yours because that would contain colostrums, which is vital for the immune system of the child.   Mother’s milk will always create the body resistance and the child will be a healthy one in future.

http://www.baby.moneybizhome.com

When you are breast feeding your child, the food that causes problems in your body may be communicated to the baby as well. Foods that cause gas or cold should be avoided or the baby will have uncomfortable state or congestion.

Bottle feeding

If you are bottle-feeding your baby for some reasons, then make sure that the bottles are well sterilized and clean. Scrub them with washing liquids.  Boil them for 25 minutes to kill unwanted organism that may have developed in it due to the fermenting milk. Steam sterilizer and cold sterilizer methods are also there, about which one has to consult with an expert and should see to it that those are readily available in the market.

Baby sleeping

The materials needed to put the baby to sleep are  a good, firm mattress, sheets and blankets. Keep one feet distance from the nostril range of the baby if you are lying along with your baby on the same bed. There should not be unnecessary clothing or clothes around the baby’s body and bed which may cause temperature rise and heating.  The baby is not going to talk about it, and you should be sensitive enough to remove the body coverings as much as possible.  There should be a mosquito net, or at least a netted covering around the baby to keep away the flies and the mosquitoes.

Clothing

Summer clothes should be light cotton ones. When the baby is taken out, make sure that his head does not get the direct sun.  In winter, there may be sweaters, trousers and other woolens.

Changing

The baby’s diapers should be regularly changed.  The intervals should be fixed according to the baby’s routine of potting and wetting.  Despite the routine, the baby may need changing because of  untimely nature calls at times. It is the baby’s right to feel dry at every moment.  See to it that the bed is not wetted and the smelly clothes and bed sheets are removed.

Bathing

The baby needs a mouth washing with cotton.  A bath tub large enough to hold it and is easy to wash should be made available. The baby should enjoy the water which can be assessed if  leg splashing which is very distinct. The baby should be rubbed with baby oil and baby cream. The nail clippers should be used at bath time.  After bath, the baby should be thoroughly dried and should be applied with a baby powder.

Immunisation

The baby should be immunized against Small Pox & Measles with BCG within 3 months of its age. The first DPT (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Psertussis, Polio, HIB, Meningitis C) is due within the first 2 months followed by the 2nd and the 3rd one at one month intervals. The MMR vaccination  against Measles, Mumps and Rubella should be done within 1 years of age.  The boosters should be taken after the baby is 4 years old.

Training and Education

Though regular training and teaching should not be started before the age of three years, the child’s habits and sense of discipline is cultivated through the discipline the mother maintains. When the mother is calm against odds like the baby fever, or baby dysentery while making sure of the treatments, the child gets the idea to be calm against disastrous times.

The most important babycare tip

The parents should find enough time to spend with the baby.

Top 10 ideas for baby gifts

The quick and easy thing to do when it comes to baby gifts is not always the most inspiring. We know time is short and sometimes buying baby gifts for loved ones gets left to the last minute, just before a trip to the hospital. For others, it’s just not a strong area – what’s appropriate? What colour? How much should you spend? If I don’t give them a teddy bear what else could I buy?

To help make the task of purchasing gifts for a new baby easier I’ve made a list of what I think are ten great gifts for baby, that are a bit outside the square (something a little bit special).

–Individual gift items for baby–
Some of the grooviest little baby gifts are often just an older theme re-done and done very well. The rocking horse is now competing with little toy rockers of every shape and size – giraffes, tigers, rabbits and more. It will make a delightful bedroom accessory while baby is young and later give the toddler hours of fun. Baby Buds has some great designs to choose from.

Baby may not know the difference but another rather special gift is a selection of lovely organic skin creams and lotions for nappy changes or bath time. Mum and dad will appreciate the thought and the extra pampering for their new baby. Baby Buds is one of many suppliers of organic skincare products for baby.

A personalised wall hanging is also a lovely way of welcoming a little one to the world – some companies produce really beautiful, carved wooden made-to-order hangings in a cursive script (like handwriting) that can look really fabulous. Take a look at Urban Baby for some ideas.

–Baby gifts for mum and dad!–
It’s not exactly a gift for the baby but it is a baby-related gift: new parents often need a brand new bag to carry all their baby paraphernalia, food and comfort items.

Once upon a time any old baby bag would do but these days a pastel bag with coloured blocks or little ducks all over it may no longer match the mother’s (or father’s) sensibilities. In response to a need, there are now some gorgeous, stylish baby bags that are a little less embarrassing to carry around in public.

Black leather, tan and red bags offer a more modern look. To get started, take a look at the OiOi bags at Baby Express.

–Baby gift hampers–
For a really flexible gift, a baby gift hamper can be a wonderful present. When filled with all those essential items new parents may need (but not yet know they need!) a hamper can be an absolute blessing. If you wish, they can be tailored to the family with individual gifts you choose yourself mixed in with the standard items.

A novel approach to the hamper idea is a nappy cake or clothes bouquet. A clothes bouquet is made from cute little socks and singlets twisted into flower shapes, while a nappy cake looks like a multi-tiered wedding cake but made out of nappies, blankets and other fabric baby items. Just For Bubs has nappy cakes and baby bouquets as well as other interesting baby gifts.

A Daddies guide for that new arrival, who is so tiny

A Guide for the new Daddy is about Holding AND Enjoying Your Newborn Baby

Firstly congratulation to the new parents, we want to help you enjoy the first year with your baby.

Hold the baby upright facing outward against your chest. Wrap arms around the baby and gently kiss the baby and smell that fresh baby scent.

Babies are so adorable and cute yet are so fragile. Excited daddies should take extra care in holding and cuddling these little ones. Reading books to guide you on how to holding a newborn baby” can help new fathers be comfortable with new babies. This would mean whether the father is in bed or in a chair or a nursing rocker, he should always keep in mind that child’s heads need to be supported.

Sleeping babies will also enjoy the closeness and security of the parents’ voice. So, it’s good to talk to the baby while they’re sleeping, or falling to sleep. Daddy may also enjoy the sight of his baby smiling and giggling in his sleep. It is said to be one of the loveliest sights and new dads should keep watch for this.

Newborns also love to hear singing, reading, or chanting while touching each of the baby’s toes. Changing the tone and volume of your voice then squeaking out, will allow daddy to see that the baby appears alert and moves in synchrony with his speech. The baby will eventually get familiar with daddy’s voice as newborns can recognize familiar sounds and voices. Baby also grasp tightly at offered fingers. So, bonding can be developed through close skin and eye contact in the early weeks of life.

Crying is a baby’s way of communicating. This means that something must be wrong or that something may be needed. Babies cry for a number of reasons and the most common reason is the need for a diaper change. Babies should never be left to soak in a dirty diaper for too long, especially if he or she is lying in daddy’s arms. Needing a bottle is also a common reason for crying. So, it is important for a new father to learn to support the baby while supporting the baby’s bottle. It is important to make sure that the bottle is at the right angle for feeding the baby, and that the baby’s head is supported throughout feeding.  There may be many causes for a baby’s discomfort, and while holding the baby, daddy should make sure that the baby is always comfortable.

Daddy should be aware that while you are changing a diaper, the baby might urinate again and that urine will go bursting out like a fountain and might get you wet. So while changing a diaper, make sure you do it quick and that you are quick enough to cover it when it goes up again. This can be frustrating, but new fathers should remember that it’s not the baby’s fault.

Picking the baby back up after a diaper change may be difficult for some new fathers. Many people like to use the lift and scoop method, where the baby’s legs are lifted, then you slide your hand beneath the baby’s body up to his head, and scoop the baby up with support from your forearm.

Changing diapers may be difficult, but picking the baby up with the lift and scoop method can make it a little easier.  You must be aware of the temperature around the baby. A baby may quickly overheat if they have too many layers of clothing or bedding. A newborn baby is unable to control body temperature, so the parent must be sure to keep the baby in the most comfortable surroundings as possible.

When the father is holding the baby it is important to make sure that the baby is wrapped up but not wrapped up too much. On top of the head is a soft spot called fontanelle. The soft spot is formed during birth, but the four bones that make up the skull will fuse together in twelve to eighteen months. However, in the baby’s time as a newborn, the new father must be aware and be careful around this spot. It is crucial for a new father to learn about this spot at the top of the baby’s head and to take extra care toavoid touching the top of baby’s head while holding him or her.

Fathers are seen as strong and secure, so it is important that new fathers hold their babies firmly and securely in their arms. Babies love being wrapped firmly in a baby blanket or cuddled up in adults’ arms. This certainly reminds them of a familiar womb environment and feels safe and comfortable with being all wrapped up. Babies also have a fear of falling or getting loose, so the new baby must be kept secure in a parent’s arms. You may observe the fear of falling or getting loose when a baby gives you a startled reflex and at any time their arms and legs become loose.

This daddy’s guide to holding newborn babies is just the basics. Daddy may learn more byreading a lot of ‘How to Care for Your Newborn Baby’ books, and certainly the best tool for learning is practice.

So, new fathers, don’t be afraid to get in there and hold the baby. The more a new father holds the new baby, the more confident he becomes in his own ability to hold and protect his baby. Remember babies may not accurately see you because of their short-sightedness but they can definitely remember your scent, your voice, and the way you hold them. The baby will eventually become familiar with the father’s arms and any feeling of anxiety will diminish and the father will have the pleasure of seeing that angelic, soothing smile that comes to his baby’s face each time he picks him/her up.

Crafting Your Own Baby Christening Gift

It is believed by many Catholics that christening their babies would better protect their children spiritually as they grow up. Hence, for this reason, christening an infant is considered as a major occasion. Friends of the parents are invited to join in the celebration; relatives are even at times required to part take in the occasion.

If you are one of the invited ones to enjoy the said joyous occasion, what should you do? What should you give the parents? Or what should you give the baby? The dilemma of finding the right gift for such occasions has been striking many invited guests to christening occasions over the years. Hence, to be able to give you an idea of what particular gift could be given when attending a baby christening occasion, the following shall be a presentation of the primary considerations that you should give attention to when preparing a baby christening gift for the said occasion.

Tips for Giving the Perfect Baby Christening Gift

In providing the right kind of gift for a child during a christening occasion it should be remembered that there are certain notable considerations that should be given attention to. Likely, gifts do much to draw people together and maintain friendships, because kindness begets kindness. The motive, however, is often as important as the gift itself. When last have you questioned your motives in giving gifts? When you give gifts, is it usually because you feel obligated to do so, or do you truly give from a generous spirit? Do you give largely out of regard for the occasion, or is it because of interest in the person? Are your gifts offered freely, or do they have strings attached?

In considering the basic requirements for giving a baby christening gift, it should be constantly observed that the gift need not b expensive, instead, it should be practically usable for the parents’ child care responsibilities to the infant and should be much meaningful as a remembrance of you to either of the parents or the infant. Certainly, with these considerations put into mind, creating the perfect baby christening gift would be a much easier task to consider.

Certainly, with this matter being perfectly given attention to, making a personalized baby christening gift could also be given attention to. A personalized baby christening gift shall indeed give better meaning to the present that is provided to those whom the occasion really counts.

The Summer Infant Best View Color Video Baby Monitor has all the necessary requirements that parents need, making it one of the top quality video baby monitors available. It’s 100% digital technology provides crystal clear audio and video with a secure, private transmission up to 350 feet. The Summer Infant Best View Handheld Color Monitor has a large color screen at 2.5 inches which is larger than most handheld video baby monitors.

A very useful and unique feature of this video baby monitor is the ability to remotely pan, scan and zoom on the camera. Parents using this digital video monitor have given it an average customer rating score of 4.5 out of 5 which is simply quite outstanding.

Video Picture Quality:

During the day the color picture quality is excellent and the black and white night vision is also very good, even in a totally black room. Black and white night vision is standard with color monitors with infrared technology. There are red lights on the front of the camera around the lens which most people find are not too bright, but  someone has experienced these lights to flash every 5 seconds which in turn makes the vision on the monitor flash also. The majority of people do not experience the flashing red lights on the camera and it is presumed that those who did have either a faulty camera, or the room was not dark enough for the camera to distinguish between functioning in night or day vision.

There are green lights above the camera lens and soft red lights all around the camera lens that should not be flashing on and off. There is a green power indicator light on the camera that is generally considered to be too bright, some people have resolved this issue by covering it with electrical tape.

Audio and Reception:

The sound quality is very good, it’s so sensitive you can hear your baby breathing if you want to. There are a wide range of audio settings, from loud to quiet, to off. The LED lights that indicate sound from your baby light up even when the volume is turned off, they also don’t change based on the volume setting on the parent monitor.

The one common complaint from parents using the Summer Infant Best View Handheld Baby Video Monitor is that it doesn’t have a volume control knob, but you have to enter into the menu to adjust the volume, it’s very easily done but some people don’t like this feature of the monitor.

The range is very good, the manufacturer quotes 350 feet but to expect an optimal distance for in home use of 60 feet. Many people have used this monitor over multiple floors in their homes without any interruption in transmission of audio and video, there is also no static with this video baby monitor.

Transmission & Interference:

The Best View Handheld Video Baby Monitor system operates at 2.4GHz (802.11g) a common frequency for many household wireless networks. The majority of people that use this video baby monitor system do not experience any interference or decreased performance of other electronic devices such as wireless router, laptop computers, iphone, wireless printers, TiVo, NAS, PS3, XBox 360, Wii and cordless phones. There is however, the other minority that do experience interference with wireless routers (802.11g) and other electronic devices. Trying 802.11n (MIMO) might solve interference issues for some people.

Other Features:

Batteries: The monitor uses 3 AA rechargeable NiMh batteries which are included, and last up to 10 hours. If you are running the monitor on batteries instead of AC power the screen turns off automatically to conserve battery life and you have to turn the video back on by pressing a button on the top of the monitor, the baby monitor does not automatically turn off the video image if it is connected to the power.

Remote Pan and Zoom: A great feature of the ‘Best View’ video baby monitor is the pan/tilt and zoom functions. The camera has a motorised mount, it can be turned through a wide range of motion, it’s controlled by a small joystick on the handheld monitor. When the camera moves it’s very quiet so it wont wake up your baby, it pans about 320 degrees so you will be able to scan most of your child’s room, this is an advantage to monitor the toddler who likes to get out of bed and play in their room. The camera can tilt upwards 90 degrees and downwards about 40 degrees from horizontal. Understanding baby’s health

The first and foremost understanding that you need to put in while treating a baby’s illness is that illness are unalarmed body conditions. Just like having an unpleasant uninvited guest. If you child wakes up at the middle of the night this is a hint that mothers need to note down. Some of these might follow with a chaos and depression symptoms. Put more thought to what you are feeding your child. Anything unhygienic is a key to internal infection like diarrhea or frequent stools. Diarrhea is a deadly disease which dehydrates the child’s body by allowing the body salts to escape.

Some babies are diseased by birth and elimination is possible if the child is given very intensive care. Intensive care refers to additional means like giving supplements and proper diet. Sometimes the diet is not enough to satisfy the nutritional balance and this is why vitamins are required. A balanced diet can do wonders to keep your baby healthy and its ability to fight diseases. Food selection has to be organic always when it comes to raising kids. Some doctors can help you to select the milk that right for your baby. Organic foods are the ones in which the nutritional facts are high and in right proportion.

All products that mothers use to raise babies have to be boiled in water. Even the water that the child is given has to be purified by boiling and then chilled accordingly. Apart from only water and food, the selection of right clothing materials also has to be checked. If your baby is not comfortable with a specific cloth on then rashes or redness are the possible symptoms. Find more info about newborn baby care here.
