How to Make Easy No-Cook Baby Food: Bananas or Avocados

Making your own baby food at home is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to feed your baby. Bananas and Avocados are two easy No-Cook foods and are a great place to start if you have never made baby food before. These two foods really are the simplest baby food that I can think of to
make. There is practically no preparation involved and can be made on demand any time of the day, anywhere you go. The best thing about it, is that there is no cooking involved at all.

Neither bananas nor avocados freeze well, so these foods are best made to order.

You Will Need:

Bananas, Or
Avocados
Rice Cereal
Oatmeal (optional)
Yogurt (optional)

Bananas:

When your baby is around 5-6 months, Bananas are a great first food to give along with rice cereal. You really only need to start out with a slice or two of bananas. Simply mash the bananas in a small bowl using a fork or the back of a spoon.

The first time you try to give your baby bananas, mix it with a little bit of breast milk or formula and a small amount of rice cereal. It should be more of a thinner consistency than a thick one at first. As baby gets used to eating solids you can make it thicker. Around 7-9 months, you can add oatmeal instead of rice cereal.

Avocados:

Avocados are a great source of a good and Heart Healthy fat called monounsaturated fat. After you remove the peel and the pit, avocados can simply be smashed with a fork, mixed with a bit of breast milk or formula and served to your baby. Avocados can be offered to your baby around 6 months.

With Yogurt:

When your baby starts eating yogurt around 7-9 months old, you can mix in a tablespoon or two with either banana or avocado, or you can mix all three together along with some rice cereal or oatmeal.

As baby gets older and starts to eat chunkier food, you can dice up half of a banana or avocado and smash up the other half. Mix the diced pieces with the smashed portion to help your baby get used to eating chunky foods.

Eventually when they become older, self-feeders you will be able to simply cut large chunks and let your baby feed themselves.

Pregnant woman’s height affects baby health

Scientists from health center at Harvard University found a link between mother’s height and baby health. Specialists believe that woman’s height affects the size of her uterus. A smaller-sized woman’s body may trigger some complications during pregnancy and affect baby development in the womb.

Data, provided by Indian researchers, were compared and they came to the conclusion that it is mother’s height that influences some indicators of newborns’ health, including the risk of obesity, or conversely the lack of baby weight, development of anemia and child mortality.

It turned out that women with height below 150 cm have the risk of child mortality 70% higher, compared with, for example, women whose height is 160 centimeters and more.

Experts watched health of more than 50 000 children under 5 years. The results showed that parents’ height not only affects height of future children, but also development of fetus in a womb and further baby health.

Vitamin E is dangerous during pregnancy

Many doctors advise pregnant women to be sure to take vitamin E. However, recent studies indicate that future mothers should better refuse from this vitamin.

Specialists believe that taking vitamin E during pregnancy is the cause of a baby’s heart problems.

They surveyed 276 women whose children had problems with heart at birth, and 324 women whose children were born perfectly healthy.

It was found that women whose children were born with heart defects, consumed a large dose of vitamin E during pregnancy, than others.

The study showed that children of women who, during the first two months of pregnancy took more than 14.9 mg of vitamin E per day, were born with congenital heart defects 9 times more often.

Recall that the recommended dose of vitamin E for an adult woman is considered to be 20 mg per day.

4 year old child intellectual development

Children over four years have truly enormous ability to learn. They have an instinct of knowledge and research of the world. Help your child develop and realize his potential. Spare no time. It will be paid off.

Your child will enter school with self-confidence, teaching will not be a heavy duty for him, but joy, and you will not have a reason to upset about his progress.

In early childhood education should be based on the material which is most understandable and interesting for a child. Try to make exercises actable, funny and captivating. Then they will become a source of pleasure and help develop not only your child’s thinking and speech, but also memory, attention, imagination and perception.

«Once upon a time …»

Fairy tale introduces a kid in a huge world of culture and is a universal textbook. Based on fairy tales, you can make the whole system of tasks and exercises for training, development and education.

Suppose you choose a fairy tale «A man and a bear», read it to a child and see a picture, which depicts heroes of a fairy tale near turnip. Ask a child to retell a tale, using image, or answer questions: Why heroes grew plants? Why in the first instance a man demanded roots, while in the second – fruits? Was a man kind to a bear? How they should divide the harvest in the first and second cases?

Perhaps a kid will want to invent a new tale, in which a man is kind to a bear, draw characters, or shade their outlines; make applications under your leadership; create names of the heroes of fairy tales using alphabet.

Together with your child, you can invent mystery tales about heroes. Riddles are compiled by comparing individual features of characters with traits of other objects or characters. For example: Big as a man, hairy, like a cat, likes honey and raspberries. Who is it? Bear. On top – green, on the outside – black as coal, inside – white as snow. What is it? – Turnip.

You can offer your child math tasks: Count how many turnips are shown in a picture, Whose pile of turnip is bigger? How many turnips one will get, if you add another one?

Talk with child about why plants should be sowed in spring, not winter; explain him the importance of roots, stems, leaves and flowers, tell what changes occur in plants after continuous rains or drought in summer, etc.

«Green, round, less than watermelon …»
Most parents are seeking to teach children count and solve tasks. However, knowledge gained in this way – only intellectual information, which does not teach a child to carry out mental operations, logical reasoning, and reveal hidden mathematical relationships and interdependence.

Sensual experience is a source of your child’s knowledge. Learning of standards of color and form influences a child’s future success in mathematics. If a child does not know how to recognize geometric shapes, you should take care of developing special benefits: logical blocks, frames and inserts in the form of geometric shapes, etc.

A child must also be acquainted with the concept of value. The ratio of values – a way to transition from sensuous knowledge to logical. Only then you can proceed to develop further properties of objects – numbers. Here, too, first of all we need to develop logical thinking of a child. If you prefer, you can find a lot of games on development of logic: squares and cubes, oriental puzzles, puzzles for toddlers. In parallel with development of logical operations, we can offer a child mathematical dominoes, lotto.

Classes of «mathematics» at an early age can more accurately be called counting, measures and logical constructs. It is this combination that provides a tangible representation of mathematics as a whole. Exercises children do are natural and easy for them: they compare, organize, and measure ranges. These actions lead to manifestations of mathematical cognition.

All children like to guess riddles. They experience joy due to the process and result of this kind of competition. Riddles develop their ability to provide essential features to an object or phenomenon, prove correctness of their decision, as well as reproductive imagination – ability to create an image of the subject in its verbal description. However, the process of guessing should have a developing effect, it is necessary to form child’s specific skills.

For example, having inattentively listened to the whole riddle «In winter – white, in summer – gray», a baby instantly utters cheerful shouts: «Snow». Tell a child that the mystery should listened to the end, thought and then guessed.

We need to teach a child to provide features of unknown object and compare these features among themselves. This comparison gradually leads to guessing. Failure to perform these actions makes it difficult to find a correct answer.

It also happens that a child deliberately throws away one of named indications, if it prevents anticipated solution, or replaces it with his one, corresponding to apparent answer.

For correct, well-informed response, a child must learn to devote all signs mentioned in a riddle. While the riddle is not solved, we can not say what of these signs is most important. This can be understood only after a riddle is guessed, based on comparisons of these traits. That is why we need to assume that all signs are necessary and equally important.

If a child feel it difficult to find a solution, do not tell the answer immediately, even when a child asks for it. Fast pace is not the most important, the correct answer should be found as a result of correct inference. Quick tips deprive a child of opportunity to think. He is accustomed to a ready answer, and gradually loses interest to puzzles at all.

Learning verses improves memory, broadens horizons, teaches perception of such genre, like poetry, and, finally, forms the overall level of human culture.

It is believed that the most favorable age for learning poems – 4-5 years. It is this time when a child’s memory starts growing faster.

If a poem is easy to learn, it must conform to the contents of child’s age and temperament. There is no need to make four little ones learn excerpts of serious poems, you need to teach him children’s classics. Memorize rhythmic, funny verses, or measured and fluid. Of course, in the school with their temperament was considered not to be, but so far they only learn how to teach poetry, it is better to do.

Learn a poem emotionally and with expression, otherwise it will be devoid of meaning for a child. And yet – teaching poems is better as a gift for dad, brother, grandparents, etc.

Learning in a game
Children of preschool age perceive strictly regulated, repetitive, monotonous tasks badly. Interest – the best of motivations, it makes children really creative, and empowers them to get satisfaction from intellectual work.

Do not let a child bored during classes. If a child has fun to learn, he learns better.

Development of child’s mental abilities is determined by time and practice. If some task is too difficult, make a break, go back to it later or offer your child a lighter version.

Do not show too much anxiety about lack of progress and moving forward or even a reversal. Be patient, do not hurry, do not give your child a job beyond his intellectual capacity.

Studying with a child requires measure. Do not make a child solving tha task, if he is vertical, tired, upset, engage with something else. Try to define the limits of child’s endurance, and increase duration of classes in each case, on very little time.

Give a child an opportunity to do business he likes more often.

Avoid criticism, find words of encouragement, praise a child for patience, perseverance, etc. Never underline his weak points in comparison with other children. Form self-confidence in him.

And most importantly, try not to take classes with a child as hard work, enjoy and get pleasure from the process of communication, never lose a sense of humor. Remember that you have a great opportunity to make friends with a child. Good luck and greater self-confidence and opportunities for your child!

Top 10 ‘bad boy’ baby names

New parents may balk at naming their newborn boys such tried-and-true but yawn-inducing names as Michael or David — but a new study shows that if they play it safe, they may be doing their babies a favor.

Writing in Social Science Quarterly, Shippensburg University professor David Kalist says giving  newborn males oddball, girly or strange first names may just help land them in jail.

In alphabetical order, the Top 10 “bad boy” names, according to Kalist, are Alec, Ernest, Garland, Ivan, Kareem, Luke, Malcolm, Preston, Tyrell and Walter.

What’s in a name?
So if Ivan is terrible or Alec turns out to be a smart aleck, Kalist and his associate, Daniel Lee, believe they know the reason why. While noting that “unpopular names are likely not to be the cause of crime,” the social factors of being tagged with an offbeat moniker “increase the tendency toward juvenile delinquency.”

The pair based their report on a study of some 15,000 names given to baby boys between 1987 and 1991. They found that the more unlikely the name, the more likely a boy is to commit a delinquent act.

In revealing the 10 “most likely to” list on Friday, TODAY’s Erin Burnett gave her own interpretation to the study: “Basically, if you’re teased mercilessly your entire childhood for your name, you become an angry, bitter person, and you lash out in a way that could be negative.”

While Burnett and TODAY’s Matt Lauer noted that having a name making the list of possible future criminals didn’t stop the likes of Alec Baldwin and Ernest Hemingway from succeeding in life, there are plenty of prior studies that back up the Kalist report.

In writing about the Social Science Quarterly report, Time magazine pointed to a 1993 study that showed boys who have strange spellings of common first names (read Patric, Geoffrey) are less likely to be upstanding and successful; a 2001 study showing that boys are judged for their moral character and masculinity by their first names; and a University of Michigan study that stated, “having an unusual first name leads to unfavorable reactions in others, which then leads to unfavorable evaluations of the self.”

Exceptions to the rule
Still, what’s in a name? TODAY looked at the list of 10 heading-for-trouble names and found an example of each that could refute the findings. Along with Baldwin and Hemingway, there’s pop singer-songwriter Garland Jeffries, film director Ivan Reitman, basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, actors Luke Wilson and Luke Perry, black leader Malcolm X, legendary filmmaker Preston Sturges, Olympic gold medal boxer Tyrell Biggs, and a host of Walters — from Walter Cronkite to Walt Disney to Sir Walter Scott.

And within moments of the Social Science Quarterly report’s release, many Web sites were already poking fun at it. Writing on the Laughing Stork Web site, Candy Kirby commented, “People warned my parents I would end up a hooker or a stripper if they named me ‘Candy.’ And look at me. I NEVER dabbled in prostitution!”

The Kalist-Lee study also touched on baby girl names, noting that previous research showed a baby gal given the name Allison is seldom the daughter of high school dropouts — and that, on the whole, the less schooling they have, the more likely parents are to give their kids unpopular names.

While male names have traditionally gone the John-Steve-Michael-Matthew route, recent surveys have shown parents are getting a bit more creative. Baby Center reports that Aiden, Hayden, Jackson and Noah were among the Top 10 names for newborn boys last year — Michael finished only 14th, James 32nd, and John a lowly 55th.

Just don’t tell that to Ivan.

How to quit breastfeeding a baby

Breastfeeding is the best way to raise a healthy newborn, but only you can determine when to quit breastfeeding. When appropriate time comes to stop breastfeeding your child, you may find it hard to do. Try these ideas to quit breastfeeding.

Baby gets to know the routine, so don’t change too many of baby’s routines all at once. In other words, when it is time for feeding, give a bottle, but use the same room and chairs normally used. This soothes a baby and helps to pass to different ways of feeding.

Lower the amount of feeds per day slowly and consistently. Sometimes it is difficult to bring breastfeeding to a sudden stop. Your child will not understand and will have trouble adapting. If you have to deal with a fussy baby, you are liable to surrender and go ahead and breastfeed. So it’s a good idea to slowly wean a baby from breastfeeding, rather than quitting it at one go. To begin, cut out one daily feeding. It may occur at any moment, daytime or nighttime. In case a baby is hungry at this moment, provide him with bottle of infant formula or milk. By this time, a child may want solid food as well. Subsequently reduce the number of breastfeedings per day, one at a time, once a baby is comfortable. At some point, your baby will no longer expect to be breastfed.

Take care of breasts. Your milk secretion may continue in large quantities, even if you stop breastfeeding in a phased manner. Be careful to pay attention to your breasts during this transition period, to avoid the risk of a possibly painful infection. If you feel pain in breast, don’t breastfeed, but rather take a shower. When you are showering, the act of massaging your breasts will minimize lumps – but be gentle to avoid triggering the milk flow.

Let it take its own course. Sometimes babies will begin taking solid food, instead of depending so much on mother’s milk – they just pass the transition easily. When your child doesn’t want to be breastfed any more, he or she will let you know.

Accept dad’s help, as much as you can. Since mothers tend to comfort crying babies, most often they will use breastfeeding, as a way to soothe a baby. Dad can execute some of soothing duties, if you don’t need to breastfeed a child. He should get up during the night and put a child back to sleep. A baby will eventually be soothed by different things, not only due to breast milk. If a baby is not attached to mom, it will be very easy, when time for breastfeeding to be stopped comes.

Preparing to become a parent: 11 challenging, but effective ways

Preparing for paternity, as well as motherhood, is not easy, if you deal with this role for the first time. But there is a way, and not the only one, that can help you being mentally prepared for this difficult step, avoiding complications in future. However, remember, these methods are designed for people with iron psyche.

Men. To prepare for the joys of fatherhood, agree with the accountant department to transfer your whole salary immediately to the account of pharmacy nearest to your home. Having come home, lie on a sofa and read a newspaper for the last time.

2. Before you start a family, find a couple who already has children, and give them comments on how they should teach their child to order, as well as the fact that they behave too nervous with their child.

Tell them they should be patient. Give them tips on time they need to put a child to sleep at, how to teach him washing and brushing teeth in the morning, behaving at the table, in general, how to nurture him the right way.

Snatch at a chance: this is the last time in your life when you know all the answers.

3. To learn more about how your nights will pass, walk around the room from corner to corner from 5 PM to 10 PM, holding a wet bundle weighing about 5 kg in your hands. At 10 PM put a bundle, set an alarm-clock at midnight and go to bed. At midnight wake up, take the bundle again and walk with it back-forward till 1 AM. Set an alarm-clock for 3 AM.

As you will not manage to sleep anymore, rise up out of bed at 2 AM, go to the kitchen to have a glass of white Martini (for example) and go to bed at 2:45 again. At 3 AM wake up and sing up to 4 AM. Set the alarm for 5 AM. Stand up for the call and prepare yourself breakfast. Repeat this exercise every day throughout the year (preferably two).

4. Can you stand the mess a little child can arrange?

Coat gradually every item of upholstered furniture with jam, chocolate and yogurt.

Put some pieces of food (your choice) behind the TV and in drawers and leave them there for several months. Dirty your hands and dry them on the carpet. Then try to hide appeared spots painting them with color pencils.

5. Dressing a child is not so easy, as it seems. Catch an octopus in the sea and try to box it up in a plastic bag, in a way that none of arms would stick out of the package. Execution of this exercise requires the whole morning.

6. Take a pack of pasta and a plate with size of approximately 40×40 cm. Stick macaroni on the plate, creating a circle, cover them with lacquer and paint plate in black. Fix fasteners to the back of board and hang it on the wall. Let these splendid «beads as a gift for Mother’s Day» hanging for five years.

7. Buy a chocolate ice cream and place it in a glovebox. Stick a few coins in car audio. Crush some chocolate candies in the back seat, stroke it with a metal shovel.

8. Preparing for those days when you are going somewhere with whole family. Be prepared to leave the house. Wait at the bathroom’s door for half an hour, then go to the front door. Go out. Beep. Switch off the engine. Go out of the car. If you smoke, have your tenth cigarette. If not – bite nails. On feet. Come to the front door, press the call button for a minute. Shout: «Are you soon???» Go to the street and walk for 5-10 minutes. Sit in the car. Beep once again. Turn on the radio. You are aware of this aspect in full.

9. Repeat your each phrase five times, periodically adding: «Do you hear me?».

10. In order to learn feeding a child, ask your wife to help you. Let she repeat: «This spoon – for dad.» Ask her moving the spoon to your mouth, while playing in the plane at the same time (imitate engine’s noise using your lips).

When the spoon is in your mouth, waggle your head (as if wishing to say «no») and start howling. If she insists, taking the spoon in your mouth, then spit out whole soup. Continue spitting, do not forget howling. Wee-wee in the pants are welcome.

11. If you continue singing it even at work – then you’ve finally matured to become a real parent.

First Time Parenting Problems

All first time parents will be anxious about the health and well-being of their newborn baby. Especially in the first few weeks when everything is strange, it is often hard to know what is normal and when you can be confident that nothing is wrong with your baby. It is quite natural for
you to worry about why the baby is crying, for example, or why she won’t sleep, or to question that she is ill. In bonding with your baby, you will gradually get to know her different cries and how to respond – with a feed, a nappy change, or just a cuddle. Remember however, never hesitate to seek advice from your doctor or health visitor when you are worried or think your baby is unwell.

Thankfully, more often then not, problems such as prolonged crying or sleeplessness can be solved.

Baby Won’t Stop Crying

Babies cry for lots of different reasons at all times of the day, the most common being that they are hungry or thirsty. They also cry because they are tired, too hot or too cold, if they need a nappy change, or from lack of physical contact.

If your baby just won’t stop crying, try the following useful tips:

“Must Have” Toys for Infants (Newborn to 12 Months Old) from a Mother’s …

If you asked me a year ago which toys would be the best ones to use for an infant I would have given you a blank stare and tried to fumble my way through an answer. Now, a year later and 12 months post-baby I have a brand new perspective on baby toys. Being a first-time mom bringing my
baby to daycare for the first time, and trying to figure out how to entertain and assist my infant in growth makes me work hard to stay on the pulse of infant toys.

Parents these days aren’t looking just for toys that will entertain their children, they are looking for toys that will also educate their children and give them a head start into the next phase of their lives. We all would like to think we have the smartest baby on the block, and that starts with getting our babies to learn things at a young age. That’s where toys come into play.

When you arrive home with your newborn baby, the baby will most likely not be interested in much of anything besides eating and sleeping for the first couple months of life, but slowly but surely your baby becomes more and more aware of their surroundings. Later as your baby develops early signs of holding up their own heads they are amazed by the smallest of movements and alert to various sounds. Once they begin rolling from side-to-side they realize that they have the ability to move like mommy and daddy and they love stimulation. Once they begin to crawl all bets are off. Anything and everything intrigues them.

I was lucky as a first time mom that with the aid of the Internet for reference, exposure to a daycare environment on a regular basis, and a close knit circle of mommies that love to blog about their babies, that I came to realize what worked in stimulating my baby at each age.

Top Toys for a 1 Year Old

Top Ten Toys for a 1 Year Old Child

All of us know someone with children. At some point in your life, you will be asked to purchase a toy for a 1 year old. This can be a daunting task. An important thing to remember is the activity level of the 1 year old in question. If this is a baby that is very active, something to
play sitting still is probably not going to interest them. A movie would not be a great choice in this case. For a child that is not very active or is not walking or showing signs of walking yet, an outside ride on toy would probably not be the best choice. Here is my top ten list of toys for 1 year olds of all types.

10. A water/sand table like the Step 2 Sand and Water Activity Center. Babies this age love to put their hands in things. A water/sand table allows them to play with their hands and build fine motor skills. It can gives a child that is not standing on their own yet something to lean on and still be able to play standing up. For a smaller mess, you can use water in the table and maybe set it outside. This would be a great way to cool off. For those brave souls, you can use sand. Just make sure you get play sand and they don’t eat it.

9. Every kid needs a little red wagon. I like the Radio Flyer brand. The great thing about this is it is a toy that can grow with them. For those non-active kids, this provides something to ride in, for those active kids it is something to haul things in. An added bonus is that it helps parents by giving them something to carry kids, or other things, in as well.

8. The Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Home playset. This is awesome because it gives kids a chance to crawl around, walk through, pull up on, and sit and play at. This is a great toy that will grow with them as well.

7. The Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Learning Puppy. This has been a favorite toy of every child I have ever known to get it. It has a music mode as well as a learning mode. This will provide countless hours of fun.

6. The Fisher Price Barnyard Bowling set will allow children to learn to handle a ball and roll it. they can also learn how to set the pins back up. Everyone knows kids like to knock things down, so this would be a great gift, especially for those on a budget.
