Baby Care Tips

The mother of a baby is the most busy person on earth, when she is not very gathered about her daily routine vis-à-vis the baby.

Breast feeding

Everyday she has to bother about  the baby’s feeding, sleeping, clothing, changing and bathing.  It is the best to feed your own milk to the child. Please do not forget to give her the first milk of yours because that would contain colostrums, which is vital for the immune system of the child.   Mother’s milk will always create the body resistance and the child will be a healthy one in future.

When you are breast feeding your child, the food that causes problems in your body may be communicated to the baby as well. Foods that cause gas or cold should be avoided or the baby will have uncomfortable state or congestion.

Bottle feeding

If you are bottle-feeding your baby for some reasons, then make sure that the bottles are well sterilized and clean. Scrub them with washing liquids.  Boil them for 25 minutes to kill unwanted organism that may have developed in it due to the fermenting milk. Steam sterilizer and cold sterilizer methods are also there, about which one has to consult with an expert and should see to it that those are readily available in the market.

Baby sleeping

The materials needed to put the baby to sleep are  a good, firm mattress, sheets and blankets. Keep one feet distance from the nostril range of the baby if you are lying along with your baby on the same bed. There should not be unnecessary clothing or clothes around the baby’s body and bed which may cause temperature rise and heating.  The baby is not going to talk about it, and you should be sensitive enough to remove the body coverings as much as possible.  There should be a mosquito net, or at least a netted covering around the baby to keep away the flies and the mosquitoes.

Clothing

Summer clothes should be light cotton ones. When the baby is taken out, make sure that his head does not get the direct sun.  In winter, there may be sweaters, trousers and other woolens.

Changing

The baby’s diapers should be regularly changed.  The intervals should be fixed according to the baby’s routine of potting and wetting.  Despite the routine, the baby may need changing because of  untimely nature calls at times. It is the baby’s right to feel dry at every moment.  See to it that the bed is not wetted and the smelly clothes and bed sheets are removed.

Bathing

The baby needs a mouth washing with cotton.  A bath tub large enough to hold it and is easy to wash should be made available. The baby should enjoy the water which can be assessed if  leg splashing which is very distinct. The baby should be rubbed with baby oil and baby cream. The nail clippers should be used at bath time.  After bath, the baby should be thoroughly dried and should be applied with a baby powder.

Immunisation

The baby should be immunized against Small Pox & Measles with BCG within 3 months of its age. The first DPT (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Psertussis, Polio, HIB, Meningitis C) is due within the first 2 months followed by the 2nd and the 3rd one at one month intervals. The MMR vaccination  against Measles, Mumps and Rubella should be done within 1 years of age.  The boosters should be taken after the baby is 4 years old.

Training and Education

Though regular training and teaching should not be started before the age of three years, the child’s habits and sense of discipline is cultivated through the discipline the mother maintains. When the mother is calm against odds like the baby fever, or baby dysentery while making sure of the treatments, the child gets the idea to be calm against disastrous times.

The most important babycare tip

The parents should find enough time to spend with the baby.

Things to Bring when Traveling with Babies on Planes

Everyone knows that it is not easy to travel with a baby. Not only are you packing for yourself, but there are things that you just cannot forget for the baby. You don’t want to bring too much but there are a few necessities.

First of all, I would make sure I have a few bottles and formula. That is number one on the list. Even if you are breastfeeding, you just never know if you will be able to do that on a plane. You may not have the privacy to do it. You definitely want to make sure that the baby eats. I
would not go anywhere without formula. I would also make sure that I have a few bottles of water to mix the formula with. You always want your baby to have filtered water, so I wouldn’t depend on getting it from the bathroom sink on the plane. You don’t know the history of where that water comes from.

I would definitely bring a diaper bag filled with diapers and plenty of clothes. This is just as important as bringing the bottles and formula. Depending how old the baby is and how long the trip is, you want to make sure you never run out of diapers. I would also bring a changing pad. You don’t just want to put the baby down anywhere. Even if the restrooms have changing stations, usually they are not too clean. You are up in the air and you need to make sure you have everything you need. Clothes are a must in case the baby wets the pants or dress that she or he is in. I would also make sure I had any ointment cream that I use when I change diapers. You can’t afford to forget that either. I would say that these are the most essential things.

If you still have room in the diaper bag, there are more things that wouldn’t hurt for you to bring along. One is the baby’s nail clipper. Even if you have already trimmed the nails, there could always be another one sticking out and ready to come off. Hotels may not carry a lot of baby supplies, so you may want to bring along shampoo and soap. (especially if you prefer certain brands) Lastly, I would bring one or two toys. Don’t depend on your baby sleeping throughout the entire trip. You don’t want to bring noisy things that could bother other passengers though.

Ferber method: baby sleeping problems

The main goal pursued in Richard Ferber’s articles, “How to solve your baby sleeping problems,” published in 1985 – is teaching a child sleeping alone in bed, and without help of parents, in the case he wakes up at night. Ferber method’s positive experience progressively teaches children relying on their own efforts in achieving comfort.

Ferber compares this process with adult’s feelings, if he was not allowed to sleep on a pillow. At first, he would fall asleep with great difficulty and constantly wake up. But after a few nights, he would get used and sleep well without a pillow.

Ferber method, like many others, begins with a special ritual before bedtime (maybe swimming, and then reading books or singing a lullaby). Then mom or dad puts a child to bed, while he is still awaken. Then parents leave a child (a baby is crying). A parent returns to the nursery in five, ten and fifteen minutes, then at intervals of fifteen minutes to convince a child he is not abandoned. Parent does not stay in the room, not sway a baby and not offers him any pacifiers or bottles. Under no circumstances a parent should remove a child from the crib. This is repeated every time a child wakes up at night. Starting with the second night, all intervals should be increased by five minutes.

Ferber method offers several alternatives (at first sit next to the bed, then slowly push the chair every night), but most of all, he recommends to leave a child’s room at regular intervals.

Ferber method can last for several hours at night, several days, even weeks. In the end it usually works. Another question: Are you able to follow through. (Typically, dads follow recommended intervals more firmly, hormones produced due to a long baby cry in nursing mothers complicate the task.)

After publication of Ferber’s book, they published a number of similar, slightly modified programs. Perhaps the most positive news is the results of the latest research: you do not need to repeat the process every time a baby wakes up at night. Follow instructions only once, when a baby is put to sleep, but at night you can sway him a little. In most cases, this deviation from rules does not delay the advent of a child sound sleep at night.
