Traveling with Baby: What You Need to Pack

Top 5 Necessities for a Stress Free Airplane Trip

Vacations with babies can be both fun and stressful. Parents do not like to leave their little ones with babysitters when vacationing, so being a great parent we bring them along with us. Travel by airplane can be difficult enough at times, without fear that a crying baby will upset other
passengers. So what can us as parents pack for our babies to keep them happy during our flight? Here are a list of must have items to consider packing for your baby if you want a pleasurable flight.

One – Toys can bring great pleasure to a baby. A favorite stuffed animal that lights up can hold a babies attention for quite some time. Toy cell phones that have real sounds can keep their attention also.

Two – Be sure to bring plenty of food for your baby. Babies tend to eat more frequent than adults do. They can become fussy and cranky if they get hungry enough. If your baby is old enough for finger foods bring that along as a treat for him or her to snack on during the flight. Bring plenty of formula for feeding, and juice for quenching thirst when formula just is not cutting it.

Three – Diapers and diaper wipes are necessary to bring. No baby wants to have a dirty diaper during a four or more hour airplane ride. Diaper wipes are also good to clean up any unexpected mess your baby may make during the flight.

Four – Be sure to pack a blanket for your little one. Airplanes can become cold at times and he or she will want a little extra warmth.

Five – If your baby is teething pack a teething ring. You may also consider bringing along baby orajel or baby anbesol to relieve the pain from teething.

Six – Bring plenty of outfits for your baby. Babies have accidents from leaky diapers and dropping or spitting their food out.

Seven – Medical insurance information should be packed as well. Babies can become sick at any given moment. You will need your insurance information for that unexpected doctor visit.

Traveling with your baby does not have to be a stressful time for you or your baby. Taking simple steps to ensure a safe and happy plane ride is all it will take. Your baby and the passengers aboard the airplane will thank you for it later.

Top 4 Essential Items Needed for Air Travel with a Baby

Traveling anywhere with a baby can be a challenge, but it can become even more daunting when you have to face airport crowds and catch connection flights. What essential items should a mom or dad take along to make the air travel experience less
stressful and more enjoyable for him or her and baby? In this article, I will suggest five necessities to have on hand when traveling with your precious bundle of joy.

1. Bottle or pacifier with breast milk or pre-made formula – My oldest son and I flew together when he was only two and a half months old. I took a bottle filled with formula onto the plane, and I was so glad that I did. After we had been in the air about 15 minutes, he was hungry and ready to eat, so it definitely came in handy.

If you are breastfeeding your baby, you have everything that you need to feed your baby and may just want to bring a blanket to cover up while you are nursing. Also, the blanket will come in handy should your little one get cold on the plane.

2. Diapers – It goes without saying that these are a definite necessity. Most babies become fussy when they have a dirty diaper, so having clean ones available to put onto your baby will help to keep him or her happy. Too, it is easier to change your baby’s diaper while on the plane rather than in the airport bathroom. You avoid the chance of missing your next flight.

3. Necessary baby medications – I highly recommend taking Hyland’s Homeopathic Teething Tablets and Motrin along on your trip. Even for day to day travel with my two-year-old son, I carry these two medications with me. The teething tablets are soothing to your baby and really help relieve the pain of teething. Motrin is good to have on hand should your baby begin to run a fever. Please be sure and consult your doctor or pharmacist before use of either of these medications, and as always, administer them as directed on the package.

4. Two changes of clothes - Extra clothes always come in handy when you have a little one. If your baby spits up or has a bathroom accident that soaks through his or her clothes, you will be glad that you brought these extra articles of clothing with you.

Flying with an Infant

How to Make the Ride Pleasant for Everyone

On the best of days traveling by plane is a pain in the rear end. Imagine trying to do this stressful occasion with a baby with you. Not only do you have to worry about how the infant will handle the sudden change in altitude and environment but you also have to deal with the looks from
unsympathetic passengers. While there is no guarantee that the flight with your baby will be tear free here are a couple of things to help try to make the trip more peaceful.

Pacifier–the bane of parents everywhere once your child starts getting teeth, many people forget that it starts out as a very helpful aid. It helps your baby learn how to self soothe in any situation plus it also helps pop their ears once you reach your cruising altitude. You don’t want to leave home without this on baby’s first (or second or third) plane trip because even if they don’t use it all the time on the ground, it could be a necessity for them once you are in the air.

Tylenol–there are very few cases where I suggest giving your child this pain medicine just for your convenience. Some of these occasions are teething, for shots (usually before hand to counteract any type of pain they may feel) and flying. It may help them become sleepy so they won’t be awake for take off and usually landings are easier than the former so there should be no problem there. I understand how some parents may be hesitant to use this but it can really help in the long run with your baby’s discomfort.

Loveys–when my niece was toddler age she had a pink blanket that she carried around everywhere. It helped comfort her and would be packed along for any road trip to help her adjust to her new surroundings. Sadly my son is not constant with his lovey affections so there is no certain one that I know will calm him down. Hopefully your child does have one particular lovey and you have something to carry with you to help them get use to the airplane ride. If they have something familiar to carry with them it should alleviate some fears.

Educational Toys for Infants

Educational Toys for Infants

Parents today are actively introducing learning at an early age because they recognize the importance of education, and its relationship to success in all areas of life. Purchasing educational toys for infants has become an increasingly popular choice for parents who wish to provide their babies with additional tools that will give them a head start.

Research indicates that providing infants the appropriate cognitive stimulus at an early age can help prevent many learning difficulties later. Providing your baby with the right stimulation will not only ward off these potential learning problems, but also help prepare them for the more complex challenges they will face as pre-schoolers and beyond.

Though your baby’s motor skills and mobility may be limited, he/she is actually learning at a phenomenal pace. But because their sensory skills aren’t developed yet, infants learn physically, through sight, sound and touch, and need toys that stimulate those senses.

From a very young age babies will respond to bright contrasting colors and simple patterns. In addition, toys at this stage should be lightweight, easy to grasp, have interesting sounds and a variety of textures for the baby to touch.

As always, when choosing toys for a child of any age, be sure to follow the toy manufacturers specifications for age and safety guidelines.

Here are some suggestions;

1. Very young babies prefer objects that move slowly and/or have a gentle sound. Crib mobiles mesmerize newborns; just make sure it’s within the baby’s visual range.

2. Infants will find an unbreakable crib mirror fascinating, and will stare at their reflection intently.

3. From birth to six months of age, babies have very limited motor skills. Wrist rattles, teething rings, colorful pictures and soft blocks will stimulate and motivate infants at this age.

4. Babies between six and nine months of age are old enough to benefit from toys like activity centers, stacking rings and building blocks.

5. Don’t hesitate to introduce books at any age. Babies will focus on your voice as you read. They also love looking at faces, and will respond to books with colorful pictures of people, particularly other babies.

Although interacting with parents and caregivers offers the best education during baby’s first few months, providing educational toys for infants will supply other forms of physical activity through touch, sight and sound that will keep their little brains active, and help further their healthy development.<!–

How to Get a Baby to Sleep 10-12 Hours a Night

Tricks for sleeping babies:

At first it’s endless, getting up all night feeding a crying baby girl, then I decided I had enough. I was going to change our schedule:

Last bottle at 9:00 pm, three hours later Bianca is crying for her bottle, I checked her to see if she had a wet diaper, yep, ok took care of that, she continued to cry, comforted her, closed the
door.

Three hours later, she’s crying again, rest assured made her comfortable again, and again, this went on for 2 nights, the endless 3 hour rituals, but then the 3rd night came, I put Bianca down for night, night time, then my internal clock turned on waiting for her to wake at midnight, finally dosed off at 1:00am and believe it or not, woke at 6:30 am and still a sleeping Bianca!

So, it was worth it, listening to all the crying, and all the comforting, and now she is 17 months old still sleeping
10 to 12 hours at time. Even with teething and shots.

Having a consistent routine helps also:

1. Feeding Schedules: We eat at 8:00 am, 12:00 pm, 5:30 pm and snacks and bottle in between. We always feed veggies first, then meats, then fruits, Bianca eats everything in site! She has never been sick in her little life!

2. Naps are a must: 10:00-12:00, and 2:30-4:30. As we like our beauty sleep, so do our children!

3. Baths: Every night at 7:00 pm there is bath-time and fun time playing with the tubby toys, and Mom and Dad trade off!

4. Reading Time: 7:30, means it time for 30 minutes of snuggling and reading, even if it’s just pointing at pictures!

5. Bedtime: 8:00 pm Bianca goes to bed with no crying, screaming, nothing but loves and kisses!

Night, night Bianca!
